It would seem odd to bring these 2 together in the same sentence. But they are, in fact, very much connected.
One of the areas of more common restriction in the human body is the psoas muscle and its fascia. It's the only skeletal muscle that directly connects the torso to the leg. It runs along the back of the abdomen and pelvis with a potentially long tension influence on many joint articulations (spine, sacrum, hip) . And because it runs right behind our guts (intestines), it's tightness can positionally apply stress to the lower part of your digestion.
One of the biggest challenges of the muscle is it's significant stress reactive quality coupled with it's depth in the body, preventing most people from having any feeling awareness of it. Meaning, when your nervous system is in a fight or flight drive, it gets tight without you ever feeling it...until you're in pain. And it's position and stress guarding can trigger tension in the smooth muscle of some of the lower abdominal organs.
So why do i suggest the heart and gut are connected? Because the fascia of the psoas muscle has a direct connection to the heart through the back of the diaphragm. Literally, there is direct tension relationship with the heart and psoas and the pressure applied through this chain to the lower abdominal organs.
I cannot say exactly how these were intended to influence each other, by whatever intelligent design did so. But, I can track the line in my body and become attuned to the sensations and feeling information. I will forever explore and ponder how my restricted heart emotions connect to this area of holding. Or how when I open, this relationship becomes a relaxed one. And you can explore as well. So that you can begin a discovery process of feeling how it holds stuck energy so it can be released. And more completely release it with the emotion that is held within.
From the place of cleared space within your body, you can train it anew to be the beautiful mover and anchor muscle it was intended to be.
If you've experienced back or hip pain, perhaps the heightened activity of this could be a challenge for you.
